Solo Sokos Hotel Torni, located in the heart of Helsinki, opened to the public in April 2022.

Located in the heart of Helsinki, Hotel Torni is a building of great urban and cultural-historical significance. Completed in 1931, the hotel was designed by Arkkitehtitoimisto Jung u0026 Jung and its style represents classicism. The renovation involved replacing the technical building services, cleaning the intermediate floors and replacing almost all surfaces and furniture. Service logistics were also improved and the lifts were replaced. Arco was responsible for the construction and principal design of the large-scale renovation project of the historic Hotel Torni.

Accessibility was improved by making the entrance on Kalevankatu accessible. The courtyard on side of the residential building Kyllikki was renovated and a kiosk was designed to serve the outdoor terrace in the summer. Kyllikki’s roof was also replaced and the old elevation was extended to accommodate modern ventilation technology under the roof. All changes to the roof and new ventilation blowers were limited to the courtyard side, to minimise their visibility on the street.

The hotel’s façades and old doors and windows were restored, with the aim of making as few changes as possible. The clear and simple classicist façade of Torni, as well as the beautifully ornamented façade of Kyllikki, are magnificently highlighted by the new façade lighting designed by VALOA design.

The few remaining original surfaces and elements of the original interior and interior finishes of Hotel Torni were preserved, including the main entrance tambour, the foyer and the old guest lift. On the Kyllikki side, a tile stove in a few hotel rooms and a spectacular painting in the entrance tambour were preserved.

The renovated Hotel Torni is one of the most visible landmarks in Helsinki and it is the new flagship hotel of the S Group.

We also designed the landscaping of Torni’s internal yard. The internal yard was designed to be an inviting oasis with plenty of vegetation and atmospheric lighting. The materials and structures emphasise the spirit of the historic building.
