The 16- and 17-storey tower blocks Topaasi and Opaali are the first of the five tower blocks completed in the complex of the Tampere Deck.
The project has been carried out in collaboration with the international Studio Daniel Libeskind, which designed the façades of the building. The sloping cross-section of the tower blocks and the angular window openings of Libeskind’s architecture add a distinctive character to the flats.
The project is challenging to design in many aspects: The location on the railway deck alone poses its own challenges due to the noise and vibration generated by the railway. In addition, the high level of construction and the impact on the cityscape make the project particularly demanding.
