Arco-designed Lyyra runner-up for the RIL Award
The Finnish Association of Civil Engineers (RIL) has given this year’s RIL Award to the construction of the Jokeri Light Rail track and street infrastructure and depot as an alliance project. The Lyyra complex and the Myllypuro campus of Stadin Ammattiopisto shared the second place.
Minister Adlercreutz praised the runner-up project Lyyra for being a clever new project in a dense urban environment. ‘Add to this the complex urban infrastructure below the construction site and you have a new set of challenges to overcome. For example, the metro was in use throughout the construction, despite the blasting. Lyyra also takes responsible construction to the next level in many ways. The building enriches and supports the integrity of the urban space,’ says Anders Adlercreutz, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering, the selector of the winning entry.
Lyyra parties:
- Developer: Ylva
- Developer consultant and main contractor: Haahtela
- Principal design/architectural design: Arco
- Structural design, HVAC design and electrical wiring design: Ramboll Finland Oy
- Geodesign: Sitowise
RIL Award
Every year, the Finnish Association of Civil Engineers (RIL) awards the RIL Award to the building project, site or concept that best represents the high quality and innovativeness of Finnish civil engineering and expertise. The winning work or project has made the best contribution to positive building and social development in our country during the competition period. The first RIL Award was awarded in 1972.
The award recognises projects that have demonstrated excellence in design and construction, either by developing something new or by creatively applying existing knowledge. In recent years, the competition has also emphasised the use of digital solutions and new innovations and the focus on end users.
In 2022, the RIL Award was given to the Blominmäki wastewater treatment plant, and the winner was selected by Member of Parliament Elina Valtonen. In 2021, the RIL Award went to the Helsinki Airport Development Programme’s series of projects, which was selected as the winner by Corporate Executive Matti Alahuhta. In 2020, the RIL Award was awarded to the renovation and refurbishment of the Olympic Stadium, which was decided by SITRA’s President Jyrki Katainen.
