A new building for music education and concert activities on the Joensuu University campus.
Joensuu Conservatory of Music is a building for music education and concert activities. It is a major extension to the Carelia building on the Joensuu University campus (built in 1985). The aim of the project is to support the efficient use of the facilities and generate significant synergy with the 600-seat Carelia Hall shared by the University of Joensuu and the Joensuu City Orchestra.
The project includes acoustic and electronically amplified music teaching facilities of a very high acoustic standard, facilities for children’s music classes, a music library, a small hall for 120 people and a multi-purpose concert hall for 260 people. From the outset, the design of the building has been carried out as a user-oriented design process.
The project was carried out as a turnkey contract and was awarded the BREEAM Very Good environmental certificate. The project was also recognised as the North Karelia Regional Construction Project of the Year 2021.
