A modern wooden town is being constructed in the Linnanfältti area, in the immediate vicinity of the Turku Castle and the banks of the Aura River.

ARCO has been involved in the planning of the area already from the land use planning phase.

The area is zoned only for wooden buildings, so extensive background work has been carried out for the plan. Linnanfältti is one of the national key projects of the Moderni puukaupunki (Modern Wooden City) project. The aim of the design has been to create a residential area that would match the historical city centre milieu, where timber construction contributes to creating a comfortable living environment for the residents.

The historic wooden houses on Linnankatu are intertwined with the new, cosy neighbourhood, creating a unique and distinctive atmosphere for the area.

The design pays homage to the old while boldly breathing new life to the centre of the historic area. The wooden buildings represent modern and ecological construction, contributing to the creation of a comfortable urban environment.
