The Matinkartano bridge is a pedestrian bridge leading from Hauenkalliontie to the south side of Nelikkotie. The bridge significantly improves the school route to the nearby Mattliden School and makes cycling across the intersection smoother.
The bridge was designed in collaboration with A-insinöörit. It is a continuous concrete girder bridge with a total length of about 160 m and a width of 5 m (useful width 4 m). The cross-section of the bridge deck has been designed to emphasise the bridge’s streamlined integration into the landscape. The cross-section of the circular columns tapers downwards and the downpipes are integrated inside them. The railings consist of perforated stainless steel sheets with wide top guides, into which the bridge lighting is integrated with LED strips.
One of the bridge pillars is placed in the roundabout. In the vicinity of the second abutment, there is an archaeological site, which was taken into account in the construction work.
The Finnish Association of Civil Engineers RIL selected the bridge as Bridge of the Year 2019.
