Winner of the Särkänniemi Pedestrian Bridge Design Competition.

The Särkänsilta Bridge connects the Särkänniemi event area with the Mustalahti harbour, extending the pedestrian route from Hämeenpuisto towards Näsinneula. The bridge was the subject of a design competition in 2023, won by ARCO in collaboration with A-insinöörit. The design divides the bridge into two branches, shaped by optimal pedestrian routes: one leading towards Näsinneula, the other towards the new entrance to Särkänniemi.

The bridge has a solid, sculptural character. Its minimalist expression was chosen to balance the visually rich surroundings, complementing the steel structures of the amusement park and the masts and funnels of the harbour. As a playful detail, observation openings are integrated into the solid railings.

Material choices reflect the surrounding environment. The polished underside acts as a reflective surface, capturing the changing light of the water across seasons. Lighting is fully integrated into the structure: fixtures are embedded within the railings, creating an even, continuous illumination that highlights the bridge’s directionality.
