Tripla is an innovative urban centre offering a wide range of services and facilities.
It consists of three blocks linking the western and eastern Pasila, the northern railway yard blocks and the southern tower block area. The new centre of Pasila was required to have a distinctive identity, innovative architecture, a diverse concentration of services, jobs and housing, and pleasant public spaces indoors and outdoors, while meeting strict sustainability criteria. Tripla has been awarded the highest level of LEED Platinum certification.
Together with other designers involved in the project, we developed a Design Manual for the shopping centre based on researched data, with the aim of creating an attractive shopping centre, clarifying the customer experience, and taking into account the needs of commercial operators. The floor-specific colour themes, the shape of the shopping aisles and the visual concept of the shopping centre make it easy to move around the shopping centre.
The dominant elements are brass, black and white. These themes are found throughout the shopping centre. The curved shape of the shopping aisles is repeated in the lighting lines that criss-cross across the suspended ceilings. The floor openings are accentuated by brass collars, while in the central area the eye is drawn to the impressive, illuminated skylights and mirror elements.
The restaurants are concentrated at the intersection of the walkways, so that the restaurant services are seamlessly integrated into the shopping centre. The Market Zoo food court offers smaller operators’ services within easy reach. Adapting to different events and atmospheres, the undulating and illuminated steel elements of the walls of the fourth-floor event plaza catch the eye as you walk from the station to Tripla. In addition to these, the basement also houses a versatile entertainment and sports centre with surfing and beach volleyball facilities.
