The main lobby, restaurant and library on the Kuopio campus were revitalised with a renovation and extension.
In this project on the Kuopio campus of the University of Eastern Finland, extensive renovations were carried out on the entrance floor of the Snellmania building. The project comprises the modifications and extension of the main lobby and restaurant, alteration work in the library, the construction of a new plant room, and the renovation of the main entrance. In connection with the renovations, the premises were also upgraded to be accessible.
The main lobby and restaurant were enlarged by a 185 square metre extension towards Savilahti, which opened up stunning new views of the waterfront from the interior. The extension provided much-needed extra seating for the student restaurant and group work spaces for students in the lobby.
Arco was responsible for the interior design of the entire project. The furniture was designed to make the facilities not only stylish, but also flexible and as supportive of learning as possible. For the main lobby, the aim was to create a relaxed lobby lounge that is available 24/7 and serves as an inspiring event and self-study space.
