The renovation of Lappeenranta University of Technology was inspired by an extensive campus vision and land use plan for the campus area.
The vision looked at the synergy and functionality of the entire campus area and was used to initiate an alteration of the town plan for the area and the planning of the RV1 construction phase alteration and extension works.
The renovation involved a complete overhaul of the buildings and significant changes to the premises, including a wide range of analysis on the use and efficiency of the facilities. The shared use of the facilities identified many synergies and efficiency gains. The premises house the activities of the University of Lappeenranta and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences, such as new learning and office environments and heavy engineering laboratories. In addition, cafeterias, restaurants, sports facilities and social hubs serve as meeting places on campus.
The project was awarded the BREEAM Very Good environmental certification. Arco was also responsible for BIM coordination in the project.
