Tampere’s New Psychiatric Hospital Recognised as the Best International Healthcare Building

The new psychiatric hospital in Tampere represents a new generation of human-centred, recovery-oriented healthcare design. Together with C.F. Møller Architects, ARCO has delivered a future-proof facility that meets the evolving needs of modern care environments. The project received the Gold Award in the Best International Healthcare Facility category, which highlights architectural excellence and innovations that enhance patient experience and clinical outcomes.

A large, cohesive facility for specialised psychiatric care

Designed in close collaboration with C.F. Møller Architects, the nearly 30,000 m² building provides a comprehensive setting for specialised psychiatric services. Carefully positioned courtyards bring abundant natural light and green views into the interior—elements proven to support mental wellbeing and recovery.

A human-centred, clear and safe environment

At the heart of the design is a clear and secure layout organised around an internal street. Private spaces that support calm and dignity, communal meeting areas, and a diverse range of indoor and outdoor environments together form a considerate setting for both patients and staff.
