The office space at the headquarters of Eckes Granini Finland Oy in Artukainen, Turku, was modernised. The new facilities will better serve their purpose and support the sense of community among staff.
The aim of the project was to update the 1970s office space into a modern and functional office environment that would reflect Eckes Granini Finland Oy’s strategy and values and support the sense of community among the staff. The new floor plan has a new break room at its core, which now acts as a hub between the two office spaces. Modular elements were used to create spaces within the premises, saving time in both construction and surface finishing. While wooden surfaces soften the old concrete structures and vaults, glass surfaces allow natural light to enter the space freely.
One of the sources of inspiration for the concept change was the company’s main product families and the main ingredients used in juice production, in particular Finnish fruits and berries. The organic sources of inspiration are also repeated in the loose furniture in the form of round and soft shapes in the meeting and break rooms. Another starting point was to create spaces that could be modified in the future according to the number of users and their needs. Arco also made use of existing furniture, including several Kilta chairs that were repaired and reupholstered for the upgraded office.
The client and the end users of the project site were involved in the design process: staff representatives were allowed to influence and comment on the floor plans and furniture and material choices before implementation. The appropriate imagery for the premises and the new names for the meeting and quiet rooms were chosen together with the client’s representatives.
