The working environment and facilities of the University of Eastern Finland university services was transformed based on the client’s strategic objectives and participatory planning.
As university services are moving to digital environments, the old office no longer served the new way of working. The aim of the design work was to create a new working environment concept to support the new functional needs and to create more comfortable and communal facilities.
End-users were involved in the change process from the very beginning through participatory planning. We supported the transformation and developed a new working environment concept together with the end users. The space was made comfortable by, for example, creating good space acoustics and placing the break room by the magnificent Savilahti landscape. The seasonal use of the existing rooftop terrace was extended by covering and glazing the terrace.
In addition to the working environment concept, the comprehensive space transformation included layout design, surface material and fixture design, as well as a concept plan for lighting. The project also included a façade alteration and the preparations for an alteration permit, as well as the production of Hansel competition material for loose furniture.
