When completed, the Jynkkä day-care centre will provide day-care places for 120 children and working space for 27 staff members.
The new day-care centre will be located in the Jynkkä district, south of Kuopio city centre, on a site that has previously housed a multi-purpose building and a day-care centre serving the area during construction. The day-care centre, which curves around the adjacent Aittolammentie, protects the south-facing playground from noise, creating a pleasant and safe environment for the youngest members of the family.
The building consists of two rectangular, interconnected log modules. The combination of the traditional log with the building’s clean, modern design language creates a distinctive and interesting character that is a joy to look at from different angles, with lights and shadows playing on the façade during the day.
The entrance façade has a canopy almost the entire width of the building, rising towards the centre of the building, directing people to the main entrance. The entrances to the day-care groups have their own smaller canopies, painted in distinctive colours, which give the playground façade a colourful and cheerful look, but also help children identify their own group room.
The project will be implemented as a collaborative turnkey contract, where plans are developed together with the client and users at the earliest possible stage to ensure a high-quality outcome.
